Hi. I'm Greg from Bennington Marine. Today we are going to show you how to properly launch a boat into the water. At the launch site. It can get very busy, especially on weekends. So while we're in the staging area, this is a good opportunity for you to go ahead and release your tie down straps and then we'll work around each corner and get them all loose and taken off.
00:00:29:10 - 00:00:44:16
A good rule of thumb when you're backing the the boat and trailer down into the ramp is to use this as a guide. Usually your front tire, if you have a tandem axle like this boat, usually the top part of your entire your front tire would be a good gauge use as the proper depth to back the trailer in.
00:00:44:16 - 00:01:03:09
And we don't want to back then too far. And some of that's all going to depend on the length of the of the boat. So you might have to just as up and down a little bit but this is a great rule of thumb. Top of the tire is a good way to go. So here in the back we want to make sure if you have rear transom straps, we want to make sure we get those off because if we don't get those off the boats not going to come off the trailer too well.
00:01:05:01 - 00:01:27:11
So just release those, pop it in and that's out of our way. Also, while you're back here, you want to make sure that if the motor has a trailering bracket like this one, you tilt it up you flip it down and you don't want to lower the motor all the way down yet, but you want to lower it enough that you can back into the water without hitting the bottom in case it's shallow.
00:01:28:11 - 00:01:33:13
And let's not forget your ladder if you're taking your cover off, we want to make sure we get your ladder put back and stowed away.
00:01:36:14 - 00:02:03:17
OK, we do take our other strap off and we're getting ready to launch. OK, what we want to do is turn nice and wide and kind of just get ourselves straightened out a little bit and kind of straighten up with the ramp. So we back and it'll just make things that much easier. So got myself straight. And this would be if you have four wheel drive or all wheel drive, you can change it into 4 wheel drive.
00:02:03:17 - 00:02:19:09
This is the time that I would do that. That'll just give you more pull when you go to pull out the trailer, and that way you won't have any slippage in your tires. When you pull it out of the ramp. So we're just going to back this in nice and slow is the key. Just take your time. Make sure you just get lined up with the pad.
00:02:19:23 - 00:02:36:10
Keep yourself straight and again, we're going to back this in until we get just to the top of the forward tire since this is a tandem axle trailer. So there we go, right to the top of the tire and now we'll go ahead and we'll get out. So now we're here getting ready to actually launch the boat off the trailer.
00:02:36:17 - 00:02:52:12
We're going to go ahead and loosen our winch strap release that piece off, take our safety chain off and then just board. This one has nice set of steps. Just going to board right up the staircase into the boat.
00:02:57:06 - 00:03:15:14
Once we're in the boat, we've already turned on our power to the switch to the battery for the motor. We're going to make sure that we move the motor down enough where it's in the water before we start it. Now, we're going to go ahead and make sure our safety lanyard is on start the engine will let warm up just a skosh here real quick.
00:03:17:01 - 00:03:38:16
Again, it's another beautiful day. So yeah, we'll be able to start back in the water a little bit. So I'm going to wave to the driver just to back it in a little bit more and then it'll just kind of keep coming in a little bit more like I said earlier, longer boats. Sometimes you have to back the trailer in just a little bit more than than other trailers.
00:03:38:16 - 00:03:59:03
It just depends on the length of the boat and now I'm just going to ease right on off the trailer. As you see here, and we're out in the water, you can wave to the driver. So she will start to pull the trailer out of the water right now. For more boating tips, Visit us at BenningtonMarine.com.
